Lyon’s star Memphis Depay has recently confirmed that he’s been monitored by La Liga giants Barcelona. However, the Dutch forward also added that the potential deal is still far away.

Former Netherlands’ manager Ronald Koeman took over Barca last month and is reportedly keen on reuniting with Depay on the club level. Koeman believes that the 26-year-old player is the perfect piece in rebuilding the team and told the front office not to take “no” for an answer.

Several reports in recent days suggested that Lyon already accepted an offer of around $27 million for Depay, but the player remained tight-lipped about these rumors. However, he acknowledged that Barcelona is trying to get him.

“We just have to see what will happen. I’ll report to [Lyon] tomorrow, and we’ll see what happens,” Depay told reporters over the weekend. “I haven’t heard much more from my agent. I know that there is interest, but I don’t have much more to say because I don’t know much about it.”

Lyon, on the other hand, is open about the possibility of selling their best player. Memphis Depay has just one year left on his deal, and Ligue 1 side needs to sell him this summer in order to get any significant profit. The club’s president Jean-Michel Aulas told the French media over the weekend that there are several teams interested in Depay, mentioning Barcelona and AS Roma.

Depay joined Lyon in 2017 after a struggling season and a half with Manchester United. Since then, he re-discovered his form and became the French club’s best player, scoring 57 goals in 139 games.
