La Liga’s relegation race might have looked like almost a foregone conclusion heading into Matchday 35, but Mallorca’s 2-0 win over Levante has added new fuel to the fire.

Mallorca, which found itself 6 points behind Alaves and 7 points behind Celta Vigo and Eibar for the final spot for safety in La Liga, halved the distance between itself and the drop zone with its home win on Wednesday night, which came against a Levante team that seemed to have no answer for the home team’s attacking football.

The island side, which has been fighting for its safety in La Liga ever since earning promotion last summer in a season that has seen lots of goals scored and lots of goals allowed, achieved only its fifth clean sheet of the season in their Wednesday win which gives them hope heading into the final three matches of the season.

Alaves, Celta, and Eibar, however, will now feel pressure to achieve points in their final matches of the season. If not, these teams, which previously had looked nearly safe, could see their La Liga runs come to a crashing end.

Mallorca will visit Sevilla this weekend in a game that they will look to at least achieve a point in in order to stay in the hunt.
