Manchester City striker Erling Haaland scored twice in his team’s 3-1 victory over Leicester City on Saturday to equal the Premier League record for most goals in a single season. The Norwegian now jointly holds the record with Mohamed Salah with 32 goals a piece.

This news comes just days after Man City’s 3-0 thumping of Bayern Munich in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal clash. During that game, Haaland grabbed his 45th goal in all competitions, becoming the first player in English football to reach this milestone.

During the Leicester City game, defender John Stones handed City the lead after just five minutes of play when he scored from a corner. Haaland got on the scoresheet just eight minutes later when he scored a penalty, before doubling his tally in the 25th minute. While Kelechi Iheanacho put the visitors on the scoresheet in the 75th minute, it proved too little too late.

“I think we are very happy with three more points. Three more points closer to Arsenal and we are chasing them,” Man City midfielder Kalvin Phillips commented. “Our standards slipped a little towards the end, there were a few mistakes and we had a couple of substitutions. Overall we are happy with the first 60 minutes or so.”
