Manchester City winger Phil Foden will miss his team’s Premier League game against Liverpool on Saturday after undergoing surgery to treat his acute appendicitis, the club confirmed on Saturday.

“He will not be fit for this weekend’s Premier League game at home to Liverpool and it is unclear at this stage how long he will be unavailable for,” Man City announced in an official public statement.

While the 22-year-old played 12 minutes in England’s 2-1 win over Italy earlier this week, he underwent surgery upon returning to London following the Euro 2024 qualifier win. He missed England’s subsequent 2-0 victory over Ukraine at Wembley as a result.

Foden’s absence comes at a tumultuous time for City, who are currently in second place in the Premier League. Now trailing league leaders Arsenal by eight points, each win will be crucial for Man City as they look to remain in the title race.
