Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has requested that Argentina center-back Lisandro Martinez prepare himself for the restart of the Premier League on Tuesday evening following celebrations of his nation’s World Cup success. Man Utd is set to play Nottingham Forest at home.

“I can understand that it’s very emotional,” ten Hag said of Argentina’s World Cup triumph. “Winning the World Cup for your country is the highest you can be. But also Martinez has to accept that on the 27th the Premier League comes back.”

Ten Hag included five World Cup players in his starting 11 as Man Utd cruised to a 2-0 win over Burnley in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, with an additional four World Cup stars on the bench.

Fellow World Cup finalist Raphael Varane was also absent from the Red Devils’ Carabao Cup triumph after ten Hag gave him leave following France’s defeat.

Harry Maguire, who represented England at the World Cup, was ruled out of the clash due to illness while winger Jadon Sancho has been granted time away from the club and was thus unavailable for selection.
