After a shameful defeat against Brighton over the weekend, Manchester United ramped up their activity on the transfer market. According to multiple reports, the Premier League club is now considering moves for Juventus’ midfielder Adrien Rabiot and Bologna’s striker Marko Arnautovic.

United is coming to terms that they will most likely miss out on Barcelona’s Frenkie De Jong and are now ready to pursue alternatives in their attempts to reinforce their shaky midfield. Rabiot is considered a good choice because of his desire to come to Old Trafford and at an affordable price. Juve would be thrilled to let the 27-year-old player go as he isn’t part of their long-term plans.

On the other hand, Arnautovic should boost Man Utd’s attack, which has been short on options recently. The club failed to address the need for a striker earlier in the offseason, which left head coach Erik ten Hag with injured Anthony Martial and unhappy Cristiano Ronaldo as only options up front.

Ten Hag is the main instigator of Arnautovic pursuit as the duo collaborated before with Dutch side Twente. The 33-year-old player scored 14 goals with Bologna in Seria A last season. He previously played in Premier League with Stoke City and West Ham United.

Many believe Manchester United is currently in panic mode for considering Rabiot and Arnautovic. While talented, Rabiot is no longer considered an impactful player, and Juve’s willingness to let him for a discount price should be telling enough. Arnautovic, on the other hand, is on the back end of his career and is hardly a coup for a club that wants to return to the top of the Premier League this season.
