Manchester United started their Carabao Cup campaign on the right foot, defeating fellow Premier League outfit Aston Villa 4-2 at Old Trafford.

While the game remained goalless at half-time, the match sparked to life in the second half when Ollie Watkins opened the scoring for the visitors in the 48th minute.

Just one minute later, Man Utd hit back as Antony Martial slotted a Bruno Fernandes through ball past the keeper in what was a pacey counter-attack. While the hosts went behind again after Diego Dalot turned the ball into his own net, Marcus Rashford jockeyed the ball past the Villa defense to draw the Red Devils level yet again.

Bruno Fernandes handed Man Utd the lead for the first time in the 78th minute, while defensive midfielder Scott McTominay got his name on the scoresheet in stoppage time to secure a convincing win for the Red Devils.

“It was a game of two halves,” goalscorer Rashford stated during a post-match interview.”

First half it was not great in possession so it was similar to the other day. The second half we played with a lot more confidence. My aim is to enjoy my football and at the moment I am. If I am scoring goals and winning, then I am happy.”

Manchester United travels to Fulham for their next Premier League fixture on Sunday in what will be their final game before the World Cup break gets underway.
