Fifth placed Manchester United are now just two points behind fierce rivals Chelsea on the Premier League standings, following their 5-2 drubbing of the struggling Bournemouth.

The Red Devils have been in fine form since the Premier League reboot, enjoying four consecutive wins. Among these victories was a resounding 3-0 defeat of the high-flying Sheffield United, who also seem to be challenging for a spot in Europe next season.

The game against Bournemouth got off to a flying start, with the Red Devils clearly in the driving seat. In the 16th minute, the home side was shocked by Bournemouth, who opened the scoring against the run of play courtesy of a Junior Stanislas strike.

This lead did not remain intact for long, however, as Mason Greenwood thumped the ball past goalkeeper Ramsdale. 35 minutes into the game and a Cherries’ handball gave the Red Devils a penalty. Marcus Rashford coolly put the ball in the bottom corner, handing Man Utd the advantage.

On the stroke of halftime, winger Anthony Martial extended the Red Devils’ lead through a screamer from outside the box. Yet again, a penalty was awarded after the half time break, this time to Bournemouth who pulled a goal back courtesy of Joshua King.

A comeback was not on the cards, however, as Greenwood got his second goal from a wide-angle. Bruno Fernandez wrapped up the scoring with what was a sublime free-kick.

Man Utd next face Aston Villa, as they hope to leapfrog Chelsea and earn Champions League qualification.
