Manchester United’s Alexis Sanchez and Chris Smalling will get to remain in Italy until the end of the season. Premier League side announced on Wednesday that it agreed to let Sanchez and Smalling extend their loan stints with Inter Milan and AS Roma respectively.

Both Sanchez and Smalling arrived in Italy on a season-long loan deal that was set to expire on June 30th. However, as the end of the Seria A season was pushed back to early August due to coronavirus pandemic, Man Utd accepted the offers from Inter and Roma to keep the players a bit longer.

According to Man Utd’s announcement, Sanchez and Smalling will get to “see out the remainder of the 2019/20 domestic campaign in Italy.” However, it remains unclear whether the loan extension covers their club’s Europa League games as well.  Inter and Roma are scheduled to resume the European games in early August.

Alexis Sanchez was limited to only 19 games with Inter this season, struggling with a knee injury. He scored one goal and added four assists in all competitions.

Chris Smalling, on the other hand, emerged as a starter for Roma and a key player in the team’s defense. He played 30 games and even managed to score two goals alongside one assist.
