Norwegian star striker Erling Haaland will play for Manchester City next season. The Premier League club confirmed the news on their social media on Tuesday.

According to the announcement, the City has “reached an agreement in principle” for Haaland’s transfer with Borussia Dortmund. The transfer will be officially wrapped up once the club finalizes “terms with the player.”

Haaland was arguably the most sought-after player in the world of soccer in recent months. The 21-year-old player previously made up his mind to leave Bundesliga, launching a race for his services that saw all major clubs in Europe inquiring about his services. It was believed that Real Madrid was the favorite to win the sweepstakes, but the La Liga club preferred to focus on the pursuit of Kylian Mbappe.

Manchester City has finally ended their search for a true striker by securing Haaland. The reigning Premier League champions previously attempted to get Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur, but the London club swiftly rejected their advances last summer. This left them relying solely on Gabriel Jesus, who is more comfortable as a second striker than a leading marksman.

Erling Haaland rose to prominence with Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg, where he scored 29 goals in just 27 games. This secured him a transfer to Borussia Dortmund in January 2020, and he continued his prolific run in Germany as well. So far, Haaland has played 88 games with Borussia and scored 85 goals while dishing 23 assists as well.
