Despite the challenges and several slip-ups along the way, Manchester City has done it. They managed to retain the Premier League trophy in their possession, securing the second consecutive domestic title on the last game day of the 2021-22 season.

City entered their last match against Aston Villa with two points in the bag compared to second-placed Liverpool. They could have secured the top spot on the Premier League table in a number of different ways, but the most straightforward was to beat Villa. But it turned out to be the most challenging.

Playing just for honor, Villa surprisingly proved to be a much tougher test than Man City probably expected. The Birmingham club had City on the ropes, getting a 1-0 lead late in the first half and then doubling it early in the second period. At the same time, Liverpool looked in good shape against Wolves and needed just one goal to turn City’s world upside down.

Liverpool would go on to get their goal and even won the Wolves matchup 3-1. Unfortunately for them, Man City also got going and took care of business even earlier. In just a span of five minutes, from 76th to 81st minute, Ilkay Gundogan scored twice, and Rodri added one goal for Citizens and had their team back in the driver’s seat. Villa couldn’t do more after than to watch as Etihad Stadium erupts in wild celebration.
