According to multiple reports, Manchester United has agreed to sign center-back Harry Maguire from Leicester City for the most expensive transfer fee for a defender in the history of soccer.

The Premier League giants will reportedly spend $100 million to sign the England international in order to shore up their defense, which struggled with depth and poor play during last year’s disappointing campaign.

Maguire came up through the Sheffield United youth system before joining Hull City in the EPL in 2014. After the Tigers’ 2017 relegation, he joined reigning Premier League champions Leicester City for a $20 million fee.

The national team regular has been considered one of the league’s best defenders over the past few seasons, and was strongly linked to a move to Old Trafford last summer before deciding to stick with Leicester during the 2018-19 campaign.

Maguire tallied 5 goals in 69 EPL games with Leicester over the course of two seasons.

Now, it appears that the 26-year-old is finally headed off to join Man U in a move that the club’s board and coach Ole Gunnar Solksjaer hopes will boost a team that finished in a disappointing 6th place at the end of last season.
