Manchester United secured a third place finish the Premier League yesterday, thereby landing a spot in next season’s Champions League.

The Red Devils secured their qualification in the most dramatic way possible—defeating close competitors Leicester City 0-2 on the final day of the season.

The clash, which took place at an empty King Power Stadium, seemed well-balanced for the most part. This was until the 68th minute, when Leicester’s frustration got the better of them.

Due to being sandwiched between the sliding tackles of Jonny Evans and Wes Morgan, Anthony Martial was brought down in the box, thereby handing the Red Devils a penalty. Bruno Fernandez coolly converted the spot-kick, thereby handing Man Utd the lead.

Following a foul-filled game, five minutes of stoppage time was added at the end of normal time. This was extended until the 98th minute when Jesse Lingard finally got his name on the scoreboard after going the entire season without a goal or assist.

This result saw Man Utd end the season in third place on 66 points, while Chelsea (who had the same points tally) ended in fourth due to an inferior goal difference. As for the Foxes, they ended the season in fifth place, thereby securing a place in next season’s Europa League competition.
