Milan was left with an empty coach seat when Gennaro Gattuso surprised everyone by quitting his position with two more years left on his contract. The coach left the team after Milan finished fifth and didn’t acquire a place in the next Champions League by one point.

There was a lot of speculation about the man who will replace Gattuso – many big names in football were rumored, and finally the next coach is known. AC Millan announced that they have appointed Marco Giampaolo as the head coach of the team signing a two-year contract with the possibility to prolong it for one more year.

This is Giampaolo’s first coaching job in Serie A. He transferred from Sampdoria which he coached for three seasons since 2016.

The new coach who is currently 51 years old, will be faced with a challenging task since Milan is not in the greatest shape – they haven’t won the Serie A since 2011 and also, they haven’t qualified for the Champion League since 2014. The team is one of the most successful in Italian football history having won 18 Serie A titles and the management hopes that Giampaolo will bring it to its former glory.
