Marvin Bagley’s Agent Rips Kings for Benching Him in Opener

The Sacramento Kings decided to leave forward Marvin Bagley out of the rotation for their 2021-22 NBA season opener against the Portland Trail Blazers, and this didn’t sit well with the player’s agent Jeff Schwartz.

Schwartz rarely makes public comments about his clients, but this time he issued a statement on social media in which he ripped the Kings for the way they are treating Bagley. He called the decision “completely baffling” while also revealing that Sacramento had multiple trade offers for the 22-year-old but decided to pass on them.

“Instead, they chose to bring him back but not play him, a move completely contradictory to their ‘value’ argument. This is a case study in mismanagement by the Kings organization,” Schwartz concluded.

The Kings selected Marvin Bagley with the second overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, believing the Duke product was the better fit for their team compared to Luka Doncic and Trae Young, who went on to become All-Star players. Bagley did not have a flashy rookie year, in which he rarely started, but did manage to show promise and earn an NBA All-Rookie First Team nod.

Bagley’s next two seasons were far from a success, however, as he struggled with injuries and failed to develop the way the Kings hoped.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, Schwartz has been attempting to get Bagley out of Sacramento for some time now but has had little success. The Kings seem happy to keep the player despite his expected diminished role in 2021-22 and continue waiting for the right offer.
