Former Detroit Lions head coach and New England Patriots assistant Matt Patricia has been appointed as the senior defensive assistant of the Philadelphia Eagles, sources reported on Thursday.

Prior to this update, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni revealed that Patricia’s appointment was being heavily considered by the team.

“Obviously his résumé speaks for itself,” Sirianni commented during a news conference. “It gives you a great mind in there that’s done it at the highest level. It gives you great ability to bounce ideas off of with the defensive staff, and also gives me another former head coach that I can bounce ideas off of as well with things which I think would be very helpful.”

Patricia served as the New England Patriots’ defensive coordinator from 2012 to 2017, during which time the Patriots won two Superbowl Championships, in 2014 and 2016.

In 2018, Patricia was hired as the head coach of the Detroit Lions, where he compiled a 13-29-1 record before leaving his position two years later.
