Mauricio Pochettino has been appointed as the new manager of the United States Men’s National Team, ESPN confirmed. According to a source familiar with the matter, Pochettino agreed to take over as USMNT boss after lengthy discussions with USSF technical director Matt Crocker.
Having previously worked with the English Football Association and Premier League team Southampton, Crocker was tasked with recruiting a new head coach for the United States as the team shifts its focus toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup which it is set to co-host alongside Canada and Mexico.
Pochettino has been available for work since departing Chelsea at the end of last season by mutual consent, having spent just one season at the struggling Premier League club. He previously managed London rivals Tottenham Hotspur as well as Paris Saint-Germain, with whom he won the 2021 French Cup, 2021 French Super Cup, and 2022 Ligue 1 title.
Previously considered as a potential replacement for Gareth Southgate as England manager, Pochettino is set to take charge of the USMNT in time for the game against Canada on September 7 in Kansas City.
