It appears that Mauro Icardi will turn his loan move with Paris Saint-Germain in a permanent gig. According to ESPN, the French club is close to striking a deal with Seria A side Inter Milan which will see Icardi officially becoming PSG’s player for a fee of $65 million.

Icardi joined PSG on loan from Inter in the summer, with Ligue 1 powerhouse having the option to make the move permanent for around $75 million this summer. However, the clubs renegotiated terms in recent months due to coronavirus pandemic, and the Italian club agreed to lower the asking price.

Both clubs have been motivated to make the deal work. PSG is set to lose Edinson Cavani in the summer as Uruguayan striker’s deal is set to expire this year, and need a capable striker to complement stars Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. Inter, on the other side, doesn’t want Icardi back, due to his bad relationship with the fans and some of the teammates.

Mauro Icardi’s first season in France was highly successful, as Argentinian striker scored 21 goals in all competitions. He is now set to get a pay rise as part of the permanent move to PSG, with the club willing to give him a four-year contract that will average close to $11 million a year.

Icardi previously spent six years with Inter, making 219 appearances and scoring 124 goals. He was Seria A top goal scorer on two occasions and won Serie A Footballer of the Year award in 2018.
