Kylian Mbappe scored five goals, including a hat trick within 12 minutes, to lift Paris Saint-Germain to a 7-0 win over Pays de Cassel in the Round of 32 in the French Cup.

In addition to scoring his first hat trick since the World Cup final, Mbappe became the player in PSG’s history to score five goals in a single competitive match. Now, Mbappe has 25 goals in 24 games this season and takes his club tally to 196; just four short of Edison Cavani’s PSG goalscoring record.

“We came here to respect this team by playing at our level. That’s what we did, and we’re very happy,” Mbappe stated after the win. “It was a great opportunity for them and also for us, because it’s a reminder for us that we come from amateur football, and it’s important to keep this link. Even if it’s only for one game.”

PSG coach Christophe Galtier kept his word by picking a strong squad despite the gulf in class between the two sides, with both Mbappe and Neymar making the cut. Lionel Messi was rested, however, ahead of the Ligue 1 game against Reims to be played on Sunday.
