The injury bug hit the New York Mets this weekend, as stud starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard was forced to hit the injured list after suffering a hamstring injury.

The Mets placed “Thor” on the 10-day injured list with what the team described as a “right hamstring strain.” The injury happened during Syndergaard’s start at home against the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday night.

While the severity of the injury has not yet been announced by the Mets, the team is certainly hoping that Syndergaard is out for the minimum amount of time possible. The right-hander is currently posting a 4.55 ERA on the season with a 5-4 win-loss record.

He has, however, struck out 93 hitters in 95.0 innings pitched, and his peripheral statistics show that he’s been slightly unlucky in terms of earned run average. The flamethrower has been one of New York’s top pitchers since he made his MLB debut in the 2015 season.

For now, the Mets, who are in 3rd place in the NL East with a 34-37 record, will have to try to keep their heads above water without Syndergaard. The team will announce his temporary replacement in the rotation in the next couple of days.
