Mick Schumacher, the 20-year-old son of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, will make his official Formula 1 debut in a test for Ferrari next week (April 2nd) in Bahrain, before testing for Alfa Romeo the next day. This will be Schumacher’s first time behind the wheel of a new F1 car.

The young Formula 2 driver, who signed to the Ferrari Development Academy (FDA) earlier this year, said: “I am obviously more than excited and would like to thank Ferrari for giving me this opportunity. I am really looking forward to what I’m sure will be a great experience.” This event marks another major stride for Schumacher Jr. to following in his father’s racing footsteps. Michael, who won five of his seven titles racing for Ferrari, has not been seen in public since his dreadful skiing accident more than five years ago.

Ferrari team principal, Mattia Binotto, said: “Mick, who joined the FDA in January, and Callum, who has been with us since 2017, are definitely drivers on their way up and I believe that driving the SF90 in an official setting such as the tests in Bahrain and Barcelona can be very useful at this stage in their career.”

And if predictions are true, the time for Schumacher Jr. to shine as a talented driver in his own right has come.
