After parting ways with Houston Rockets last month, Mike D’Antoni is looking to get back to work immediately. However, his next post might not include a head coaching role.

According to ESPN’s Frank Isola, D’Antoni emerged as a candidate to join Brooklyn Nets’ staff under new head coach Steve Nash. The duo has a long history, with Nash winning two consecutive MVP awards while being coached by D’Antoni.

Isola also adds that Lakers’ assistant Phil Handy is also in the mix to be part of Nash’s coaching group. Handy previously worked with Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors as well.

Mike D’Antoni decided not to re-sign with the Rockets following the 2019/20 season, leaving the franchise after four years. During his time in Houston, D’Antoni posted a 217-101 record while leading the franchise to three Conference Semifinals and once Conference Finals.

D’Antoni was a candidate for several head coaching vacancies in recent weeks, being a favorite to success Brett Brown with the Philadelphia 76ers. However, 76ers opted to go with Doc Rivers once he became available.
