Defenseman Mikey Anderson agreed to an eight-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday. Before putting pen to paper on this $33 million deal, Anderson was set to become a free agent at the end of the season.
Prior to the extension Anderson had signed a one-year bridge deal worth $1 million. This came after the expiry of his entry-level contract. The 23-year-old Anderson becomes the Kings’ sixth player to have at least three years left on his contract with the team.
Anderson was selected in 2017 as a fourth-round pick by the Kings after impressing at the University of Minnesota Duluth for two seasons. He also represented the United States at back-to-back IIHF World Junior Championships.
While spending the majority of his rookie season with the Kings AHL affiliate, he emerged as a first-team player over the next few years, becoming a full-time NHL player during the 2020-21 season.
Anderson has been enjoying his strongest NHL campaign to date, scoring two goals and 13 points and averaging 21:49 minutes over 55 games. Currently, the Kings find themselves just one point off the top of the Pacific Division.
