The MLS is exploring the possibility of bringing an expansion team to Las Vegas. According to reports on Friday, the league is currently in talks with Aston Villa co-owners Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris over securing the rights to bring a Las Vegas-based team into the MLS. Some of the subjects that were reportedly discussed include the construction of a stadium, corporate offices, a training facility, and market analysis.

In order to qualify for consideration, a Las Vegas-based team will be expected to have a stadium with an attendance capacity of 25,000 as well as the capability of playing indoors.

“As we witnessed at this summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup, at Leagues Cup and other marquee soccer matches in Las Vegas throughout the years, the city has a passionate soccer fan base, and we believe it could be a terrific MLS market,” Garber said of the prospect of bringing a team to Las Vegas.

Previously, San Diego and Phoenix were also considered as possible host cities for an MLS expansion side. According to Garber, once all arrangements for the new team are finalized, the team will only begin participating in the league in 2023 or later.
