Point guard and bench standout Monte Morris has agreed with the Denver Nuggets on a three-year, $27 million contract extension which will keep him with the team through the 2023-24 season.

The former Iowa State Cyclone, who was set to become an unrestricted free agent next season, will instead continue with the franchise which gave him a shot in the league despite being the 51st overall pick in the 2017 Draft and spending most of his first season in the G-League.

Morris broke through with the Nuggets in the 2018-19 season, playing in all 82 games and averaging 10.4 points and 3.6 assists per game while shooting 49% from the field.

He continued to be a big contributor last season for one of the Western Conference’s best teams, averaging 9 points and 3.5 assists per game, while playing a crucial bench role for the team in their deep playoff run.

Morris is set to continue in his role as a bench scorer and a key depth piece for the Nuggets for the next few seasons, a shining example of Denver’s acuity for developing and improving young players.

He is likely to begin the 2020-21 season with a confidence boost after his new long-term deal.
