The Cleveland Browns had a hard time getting to the quarterback in the first two weeks of the 2021 NFL season, even though they have a talented pass rush. But they made up for it and then some in the 26-6 thrashing of the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

The Browns pass rush managed to sack Bears rookie quarterback Justin Fields an impressive nine times. Defensive end Myles Garrett had 4.5 sacks alone, which was also enough to break the franchise record for most sacks in a single game. The previous record was held by linebacker Andra Davis, who managed four sacks in 2003 in a game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The all-time record is held by late Hall of Famer Derrick Thomas, who had seven sacks in a single game in 1990.

Garrett, who also added six QB hits and seven tackles for loss against the Bears, got his sacks tally to 5.5 and currently leads the league in this category.

Cleveland’s big-time free-agent acquisition Jadeveon Clowney also had a good day against Chicago, sacking Fields twice and getting his first sacks in the Browns’ uniform. Ronnie Harrison Jr. added one sack while Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Malik Jackson, and Takkarist McKinley were each credited with 0.5 sacks.
