After underwhelming performances in the 2024 season, former world’s No.1 Naomi Osaka opted to make a coaching change.

In an Instagram story shared on Friday, Osaka announced that she parted ways with her longtime coach, Wim Fissette.

“Four years, two Slams, and a whole lot of memories. Thanks Wim for being a great coach and even better person, wishing you all the best,” Osaka wrote in the story.

Fissette later confirmed the split via a post on Instagram.

“After the US Open, Naomi decided to move forward with a new path. I accepted it knowing we close this second run with more good memories and gratitude for building her way back. Always wishing the very best for each other and families,” Fissette wrote while sharing several photos from their time together.

Fissette initially coached Osaka between 2020 and 2022, helping her win the US Open and Australian Open. When Osaka ended her break from tennis in late 2023, the two reunited, but their second stint was less successful.

Osaka played at all four Grand Slams in 2024 but didn’t progress past the second round. Her worst performance came at the Australian Open, a tournament she won twice, having been eliminated in the first round.

Osaka reportedly already found a new coach in Patrick Mouratoglou, with the two seen training together in Los Angeles. Mouratoglou is best known for training Serena Williams between 2012 and 2022, helping her win 10 Grand Slams. More recently, he coached Danish tennis player Holger Rune.
