Brooklyn Nets shooting guard Spencer Dinwiddie announced vía his Twitter account on Tuesday that he would not be participating in the NBA’s restart in Orlando, Florida later this month.

Dinwiddie, a regular starter for Brooklyn and one of the team’s main offensive threats, Dinwiddie has tested positive for COVID-19 twice over the past week.

Despite hopes that Dinwiddie would test negative and see his symptoms go away, it seems as if he is still in the process of beating the virus and it simply wouldn’t be safe for him to rejoin his team.

Dinwiddie becomes the second key Nets player, alongside center DeAndre Jordan, who will not play in the season restart due to the coronavirus.

Dinwiddie has averaged 20.6 points and 6.8 assists per game for the Nets this season, who are currently in 7th place in the Eastern Conference and in position to make the playoffs.

If the team is able to close out the regular season with a playoff berth, they will undoubtedly find it difficult to overcome the absences of Jordan and Dinwiddie against a higher-seeded team.

For now, however, Nets fans and basketball fans in general are just hoping that Dinwiddie feels better soon and will be back and ready for next NBA season.
