Brooklyn Nets’ guard Spencer Dinwiddie found a way to get himself to the Olympics. After failing to make the USA Basketball team on several occasions, Dinwiddie decided to try his luck with Nigeria’s national team.

According to reports around the league, Dinwiddie is interested in playing for Nigeria at the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo. He is reportedly in the process of getting a Nigerian passport, in which case he would be eligible to represent the country as a naturalized player.

Nigeria’s basketball team recently confirmed Dinwiddie’s interest, but didn’t get into details.

Spencer Dinwiddie would definitely be a big addition to Nigeria’s national team that features several other NBA stars on their roster including Orlando Magic’s Al-Farouq Aminu and Minnesota Timberwolves’ Josh Okogie. The team is coached by former Cleveland Cavaliers’ head coach Mike Brown.

Dinwiddie has been enjoying a breakthrough season in 2019/20, stepping in for the Nets’ following the injury of their All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving. Dinwiddie played 64 games with Brooklyn this season, averaging 20.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game.
