New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas, arguably the best pass-catcher in the NFL, is going to be sidelined for several weeks.

According to the team, Thomas has an ankle injury and will miss a few games because of it. Thomas was injured in Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which the Saints won 34-23.

It was reported earlier that Thomas was trying to rehab the ankle quickly and possibly play through the injury, but it appears that it might be a high ankle sprain, an injury that significantly hinders a wide receiver’s ability to pivot and suddenly change directions.

The Saints offense is obviously going to miss Thomas, who was given a $100 million contract extension last year. Thomas has led the NFL in passes caught in both of the last two years and also led the league in total passing yards last year.

While they wait to get Thomas back, the Saints offense is going to have to depend heavily on running back Alvin Kamara, who just recently got a huge contract extension as well and scored two touchdowns in last weekend’s victory over the Bucs.

The Saints will face the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 2 in prime time on Monday night.
