The New York Yankees remained the MLB’s most valuable franchise in 2023, according to a recent report by Sportico. The Yankees are valued at $7.13 billion, which marks a 2% increase compared to last year.

At their current valuation, the NY team is the third most valuable franchise in the sport. NFL’s Dallas Cowboys at $7.64 billion and NBA’s Golden State Warriors at $7.56 billion are the only two teams considered to worth more.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are the second most-valuable MLB franchise at $5.24 billion, followed by the Boston Red Sox ($5.21 billion), Chicago Cubs ($4.69 billion), and San Francisco Giants ($3.81 billion). The least valued team in Major League Baseball is Miami Marlins, who are estimated at $1.07 billion.

Sportico’s data indicates that the average MLB team is worth $2.36 billion, with their equity in stadium real estate and MLB-related businesses included. Without those, the average value sits at $2.2 billion.

The valuation of some teams is expected to change in the future, with several franchises up for sale. The Washington Nationals have been on the market for a while now and might get new owners in the near future. The Los Angeles Angels owner Arte Moreno put a team up for sale last year before changing his mind, but there is no doubt that a firm offer might convince him to sell. Also, the Colorado Rockies are considered up for grabs, although the auction only includes a minority stake in the team.
