Newcastle United continues to make moves this summer, as they announced a big-money transfer for center forward Callum Wilson from AFC Bournemouth on Monday.

Wilson will join Newcastle on a $26 million transfer fee, the fourth-most expensive in the club’s long history.

The England international, who received his first call-up to the national team in 2018, spent the past six seasons of his career at Bournemouth after signing with them from Coventry, his youth club.

The talented forward scored 41 career goals in 126 appearances in the Premier League with the Cherries, playing a key part in their stint in England’s top flight from 2015 to 2020.

Wilson scored a personal high of 14 goals in the 2018-19 season before slightly regressing last year, scoring only 7 as Bournemouth was relegated.

The Coventry native expressed excitement about joining Newcastle, saying, “It feels amazing. Such a massive club. It wasn’t an easy decision as Villa is back home for me but this club is huge and I want to get off to a flying start.”

Aston Villa had previously attempted to sign Wilson during this summer’s transfer window.

Wilson is expected to join Newcastle United’s training sessions this week as they prepare for their Saturday Premier League opener against West Ham United.
