Brazilian soccer superstar Neymar won’t return to Spain this year, deciding to stay with Paris Saint-Germain for the next season. The 26-year-old, who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for some time now, confirmed he will remain in France in the interview with ESPN Brasil.

“Yes, I will stay in Paris. I have a contract with PSG. The speculation? The majority of it is invented by the press,” – said Neymar. “I have a contract and people know the objective, the reason why I went to PSG. I want to win with this club and I hope this season will be wonderful.”

Neymar joined PSG from Barcelona in the summer of 2017 for a record fee of $260 million. Halfway through the last season, the speculations started circling that Neymar is displeased in Paris and wants to return to Spain. Real Madrid was identified as his next destination, considering the fact that the club’s president Florentino Perez is a big admirer of the Brazilian. These rumors only grew larger over time, and Real even had to issue a statement that they are not interested in making the move for the player.

Neymar is currently on vacation, after having an underwhelming campaign with Brazil at the 2018 World Cup. Commenting on the early elimination of his country, Neymar said that it was the biggest disappointment of his career and that he was very sad about that.

“We take positive things from the World Cup. Of course, the sadness is much greater because we knew we had the team and quality players [to win]. But for things that happen in football, we could not,” – he added.
