The Baltimore Ravens started their 2021 NFL season with a 27-33 overtime loss to Las Vegas Raiders in a thrilling Monday Night Football game. But it turns out that things could have ended differently for the Ravens if only someone noticed their corner Marlon Humphrey managed to get an interception early in the game.
With 25 seconds left in the first quarter, the Raiders had 3rd&10 at their own 28 yards. Their quarterback Derek Carr tried to find tight end Darren Waller around the 40-yard line, but the pass was broken up by Humphrey.
After Waller got to the ground, Humphrey took the ball but discarded it shortly after in celebration. Las Vegas wideout Hunter Renfrow jumped on the ball, but it seemed unnecessary as the referees signaled an incomplete pass. The Raiders punted the ball, and the game continued.
However, the fans who watched closely noticed that Renfrow’s action was justified as Humphrey actually had an interception on the play.
Numerous slow-motion clips quickly surfaced on social media, showing that the ball never actually touched the ground after the pass was broken up and instead got stuck on Weller’s leg.
If someone noticed the interception, the Ravens would get a short field and at least a field goal in their hand while already being 7-0 ahead. Instead, they received a punt at their half and had a quick three and out after.
