The quarterback-needy NFL teams just got another prospect for their draft boards. North Dakota State’s signal-caller Trey Lance announced that he will forgo his two final years of college and intends to enter the 2021 NFL Draft.

Lance made his announcement days after North Dakota’s game 39-28 victory over Central Arkansas, in which he threw for 149 yards and two touchdowns while adding two more rushing TDs. This turns out to be the last time he suits up for the Bisons, as he will skip the program’s spring season in order to prepare for the draft.

“It’s been a heck of a ride for the last year,” Lance told Yahoo Sports. “I’ve learned a ton, I’ve grown a ton as a person and a football player. I honestly have to give all the credit to the guys around me, to the strength staff and coaching staff and guys I’ve played with.”

Trey Lance was a virtual unknown before taking over the starting job at North Dakota as a red-shirt sophomore in 2019. Lance proceeded to deliver an impressive campaign in which he threw for 2,786 yards and 28 touchdowns while adding 1,100 yards and 14 TDs as a runner. He finished the season without throwing an interception in 287 attempts, setting an NCAA all-division record.

Lance will enter the 2021 NFL Draft with a reputation of a dual-threat QB who is good at reading defenses. He is projected to be a first-round pick and is regarded as the third-best QB in the class behind Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and Ohio State’s Justin Fields.
