The Denver Nuggets were pushed to the limit during their Western Conference semi-final clash against the LA Clippers. Ultimately, it took all seven games to determine a winner, with the Nuggets defeating the Clippers 89-104 in the final match of the series.
It was the Clippers who got the series off to the better start, winning the first game 120-97. While the Nuggets won the second game 101-110, the Clippers restored their series lead with a close 107-113 triumph.
Game 4 resulted in an 85-96 Clippers victory, putting the Los Angeles-based team on the cusp of securing a spot in the Western Conference final.
Despite staring elimination in the face, the Denver Nuggets dug up the strength needed to claw their way back, winning the next three games 105-111, 111-98, and 89-104 to pull off the greatest of comebacks.
Clippers coach Doc Rivers took full responsibility for his side’s painful defeat, explaining, “I’m the coach and I’ll take any blame for it. But we didn’t meet our expectations, clearly. Honestly, you could just see the difference in the two teams. That team’s been together. We haven’t. And you could see it as the games went on. It hurts. It hurts. But we move on.”
The Nuggets face off with the LA Lakers in Game 1 of the Western Conference final on Saturday.
