The New York Giants decided to shuffle their roster recently, making several roster moves that should help them in a close race for the NFC East title.
The team announced on Wednesday that they have signed versatile quarterback Joe Webb, who will join the team’s practice squad. They also promoted undrafted rookie defensive end Niko Lalos to the active roster while releasing tight end Nakia Griffin-Stewart and waiving linebacker Trent Harris.
Webb will give the Giants another option at the QB position as the team navigates through the injury of their starter Daniel Jones. The 34-year-old veteran could also help the team in other ways, considering he can also catch and run fairly well for a quarterback.
Throughout his NFL career, which included stints with the Houston Texans, Minnesota Vikings, and Carolina Panthers, Joe Webb threw for 888 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught 10 passes for 74 yards while rushing for 326 yards and four TDs.
Lalos, who played four years of college football at Dartmouth, made two appearances with the Giants this season. In those outings, he had two tackles, an interception, and a fumble recovery.
Griffin-Stewart is still yet to make his debut in NFL, so it remains to be seen how he’ll contribute. Meanwhile, Harris appeared in four games with the Giants, contributing five tackles and 0.5 sacks.
