HBO’s iconic documentary series Hard Knocks is arriving earlier than expected this year. This will be the courtesy of a spinoff edition that will focus on the offseason of the New York Giants.

Hard Knocks usually follow one NFL team in a given year as they go through their training camp. This time, however, the camera crew will capture the most important events of the Giants’ offseason and the franchise’s preparations for celebrating its 100th season.

The Hard Knocks: Offseason with the New York Giants will premiere on July 2 and will consist of five episodes.

“As we enter our 100th season, we look forward to providing our fans with the opportunity to see what it takes to build an NFL roster,” Nilay Shah, Giants senior vice president, marketing and brand strategy, said in a statement. “Beginning the moment the previous season ended, we gave NFL Films unprecedented access to this critical time of the year. We know viewers will gain insight from moments that have never been captured before and are excited for them to learn more about our Giants history.”

Before this announcement, the New York Giants were one of the 18 NFL teams that never appeared on the Hard Knocks during the series’ 18 seasons. Owner John Mara previously made it clear that he isn’t interested in featuring his team on the program, but a different format possibly swayed him to change his opinion.

It is yet to be confirmed which team will take part in the new season of the original Hard Knocks. The most likely candidates are the Chicago Bears, the Denver Broncos, and the New Orleans Saints, as they are the only teams that are not exempt from being featured in the series based on various NFL criteria.
