New York City FC is looking to make a splash in the offseason by bringing in Benfica winger Franco Cervi. According to the Portuguese media, the MLS team is offering around $10 million for the 26-year-old Argentinian.

Reportedly, Benfica doesn’t mind selling Cervi since he only made three cameo appearances for the club this season. The deal is expected to be finalized in the coming days if NYCFC manages to agree to personal terms with the player.

Cervi was linked with the MLS move for some time now, with Orlando City SC and FC Dallas being interested in his services.

However, NYCFC beat them to the punch, probably seeing Cervi as the ideal replacement for Alexandru Mitrita on the left wing. Mitrita left the club after the 2020 MLS season to join Saudi Arabia side Al-Ahli.

Franco Cervi started his professional career in Argentina with Rosario Central. He joined Benfica in 2016 and made 153 appearances in all competitions for the club since, scoring 20 goals and dishing 26 assists in the process.

Cervi also made four appearances for Argentina’s national team, scoring once. His last internationally-played game, however, came in 2018.
