New York City FC’s talented winger Jesus Medina might be heading back to South America after the 2020 MLS season. According to multiple reports, the 23-year-old Paraguayan is the subject of a bid by Brazilian powerhouse Gremio.

ABC Cardinal’s Wilson Gonzalez reported that Gremio already made an official offer, but the NYCFC is reluctant to sell right away as they want to have Medina for the upcoming MLS playoffs.

Gremio are currently sitting eighth in the Brazilian top flight and are looking to make additions that would help them make a push for the Copa Libertadores spot. It remains to be seen if they are willing to wait for Medina in case NYCFC doesn’t want to sell right away, or they turn their attention to other targets.

Jesus Medina, who is one of the club’s two designated players, joined New York City FC in 2018 and has been all over the place during his time in MLS. He had an encouraging rookie campaign that saw him scored six goals and dish seven assists in 28 matches. But in 2019 he took a step back, as he only made six starts and had three goals and two assists to show for.

Medina has been trying to escape the “bust” label in 2020 and is on a good way to do so, having found the net four times during the shortened MLS.
