Orlando City Advances to MLS is Back Finals with 3-1 Win over Minnesota

Orlando City will play against Portland Timbers in MLS is Back Tournament Finals after beating Minnesota United 3-1 on Thursday night.

Orlando, who was one of the most pleasant surprises of the tournament, opened the match with more composure than their opponents, and this paid off towards the end of the first half. Portuguese star Nani first scored in 36th minute following a long pass from defender Robin Jansson and then sneaked in a beautiful curler from top of the penalty box in 42nd minute.

Despite being caught off guard, Minnesota continued to attack, trying to find their way back into the game. They received a life-line in 83rd minute thanks to Mason Toye, and then had another huge opportunity to tie the game just moments later.

Still, Orlando held their ground and whether through United’s attack before forward Benji Michel sealed the game with a goal for 3-1 in stoppage time.

“It was very satisfying for us because we worked the whole week just working as a team, making sure all the pieces were put together,” said Michel after the game. “For us to be able to get the win was very, very good for us.”

Orlando City and Portland Timbers are set to play for MLS is Back Tournament title on August 11th.
