Orlando City and Columbus Crew have joined Toronto FC and the Philadelphia Union by claiming their spots in this season’s MLS Playoffs. This is the first time that Orlando City has made it to the playoffs in its six-year history.

While Orlando was held to a 1-1 draw with the New York Red Bulls after New York scored a last-minute equalizer, they ultimately secured a playoff spot thanks to the actions of Toronto FC, who defeated Atlanta with a late winner of their own.

Also proceeding to the playoff rounds from the Eastern Conference is Columbus Crew. After enduring a four-game winless streak, Columbus defeated New York City FC to grab third place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Having led the Eastern Conference standings for a large portion of the season, recent slip-ups saw Columbus Crew lose their poll position to close competitor Toronto FC. Fortunately, with the return of Darlington Nagbe and Lucas Zelarayan, Crew’s post season hopes seem to have been restored.

There is still one playoff spot in the Eastern Conference up for grabs, with New England Revolution and NYCFC still fighting it out for the final spot in this year’s post-season.
