Running back Aaron Jones doesn’t mind having some competition in the backfield after Green Bay Packers took Boston’s AJ Dillon in the second round of 2020 NFL Draft. On the contrary, Jones even thinks this will “raise his game.”

Jones had a career-defining year in 2019, rushing for 1,084 yards and leading the league in rushing touchdowns with 16. And while this would usually convince the team that they have a franchise RB on their hand, Green Bay went on and spent a high draft pick on Dillon.

Jones was asked to give his take on the situation during his recent appearance on NFL Total Access, and according to his response, it seemed that the 25-year-old isn’t too concerned about it.

“I know it’s the NFL,” said Jones. “They’re bringing in guys every day to compete so I mean it’s just gonna raise my game and I’m excited to have him there and start working with him, teaching him the playbook and everything.”

Packers drafted AJ Dillon to provide some depth to their backfield and give themselves more options in running schemes. But Dillon also represents a “safety net” for the Packers considering that Aaron Jones is set to become a free agent after the end of the season.

Jones previously stated that he would like to be “Packer for life,” but it remains unclear whether Green Bay will be willing to pay him the money he asks for. As of now, the two sides are talking, but reportedly still haven’t made any significant progress.

Since becoming Packers’ fifth-round pick in 2017, Jones rushed for 2,260 yards and 28 touchdowns. He also added 84 receptions for 702 yards and four TDs.
