Veteran first baseman Yonder Alonso is back in San Diego. According to multiple reports, Padres acquired Alonso from Atlanta Braves in exchange for cash.

Alonso, who was an All-Star in 2017, hasn’t played with Braves this season, being placed on the team’s restricted list. He’s now expected to work out on the Padres’ alternative site at USD and wait for a call-up to the main roster.

Alonso will join his brother-in-law Manny Machado in San Diego, who confirmed the news to reporters after the 6-2 win over LA Dodgers on Tuesday.

“I’m definitely excited to have my brother-in-law finally on the same team,” said Machado.

Yonder Alonso played some of his best baseball with San Diego Padres, suiting up for the team between 2012 and 2015. During his time there, he played 439 games while hitting .271 with 27 home runs and 165 RBIs.

Padres traded Alonso to Oakland Athletics in 2016, where he spent less than two seasons before embarking on stints with Seattle Mariners, Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, and Colorado Rockies.
