After months of waiting to find the right deal, one of the two premier free agents on the market this MLB offseason has agreed to a deal with a new team.

Free agent SS/3B Manny Machado has agreed to a monstrous 10-year, $300 million contract with the San Diego Padres.

This contract represents the largest ever free agent contract awarded to an athlete in the history of North American professional sports.

Machado, who is only 26 years old, is one of the top players in baseball.

The infielder has spent the vast majority of his career with the Baltimore Orioles, before being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers at last season’s trade deadline.

Machado is one of the top power hitters in baseball and has totaled 142 home runs over his last four seasons. Last year was the most impressive offensive season of his illustrious career, as he hit .297 with 37 home runs and 107 RBI.

In addition to his offensive prowess, Machado is also regarded as one of the best infield defenders in the MLB.

The Padres, who have not made the playoffs since the 2006 season, have added an electrifying player to their roster which will immediately thrust them into playoff contention.
