Carolina Panthers are hoping to keep Luke Kuechly with the organization, despite the fact that the seven-time Pro Bowl linebacker decided to retire after this past season. According to ESPN, Panthers recently approached Kuechly and offered him a scouting role.

Back in April, in one of the rare interviews since retirement, Kuechly said that he would like to remain involved in football in a certain way. The 29-year-old reportedly was weighing between a role on TV as a commentator and analysts or taking a coaching role before Panthers came through with their offer.

Carolina’s new head coach Matt Rhule confirmed the team’s interest to keep Kuechly in a chat with reporters on Tuesday and said he hopes the future Hall of Famer will take the job.

“I’ve had a great relationship with Luke. He’s my neighbor,” said Rhule. “It’s great if it works out if it’s what he wants to do. … I certainly hope it works out.”

Luke Kuechly entered the league as Carolina Panthers’ ninth overall pick in 2012 and immediately led the league in tackles in his rookie year. Kuechly then won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in his sophomore season and went on to make seven straight Pro Bowl selections and five First-Team All-Pro honors until his retirement.
