San Jose Sharks’ legendary forward Patrick Marleau might be on the move again. In a recent chat with The Athletic, Marleau admitted that he wouldn’t mind being on the trading block if the move would allow him to play postseason hockey.
The Sharks are struggling so far in 2020/21, sitting at a 12-14-4 record. This is enough for No. 7 in the West Division and puts them on pace to miss the playoffs for the second straight year.
Marleau, on the other hand, would like to get another shot at Stanley Cup, even if that requires wearing a different jersey.
“I wouldn’t actively maybe look for it, but if it does happen or it does come, or a team wants me, that’s something you have to seriously consider,” Marleau told The Athletic’s Kevin Kurz. “Obviously, that’s still my goal, to win a Stanley Cup. It would definitely be something to consider.”
In 30 games he played this season, Marleau scored one goal and added four assists for a total of five points.
Patrick Marleau spent the first 19 years in NHL with San Jose Sharks, earning three All-Star nods and breaking most of the team’s franchise record. But despite the individual success, Marleau never managed to lift the Stanley Cup trophy.
The closest Marleau got to Stanley Cup glory was in the 2015/16 NHL season, when the Sharks reached the Finals but lost to Pittsburgh Penguins in six games.
