The New England Patriots received some devastating news regarding the hip injury of their reliable running back James White. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, an additional medical examination earlier this week showed White’s injury is more severe than originally believed and will keep him out for the remainder of the season.

White got hurt early while making a rushing attempt in the second quarter of a Week 3 loss to the New Orleans Saints. The veteran gained six yards before being tackled by linebacker Demario Davis. He immediately signaled a hip injury and needed to be carted off the field.

This is bad news for the Pats as White played really well to start the season. He rushed for 38 yards and one touchdown while also making 12 receptions for 94 yards. But more importantly, White will be missed in New England’s locker room, as he is considered to be one of the team’s leaders.

In White’s absence, the Pats are expected to give veteran Brandon Bolden an expanded role. Bolden had -1 yards after stepping in for White against the Saints but managed to contribute with three catches for 23 yards.

The Patriots are currently third in the AFC East with a 1-2 record. They host the reigning Super Bowl champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4.
