Wideout N’Keal Harry doesn’t see a future with the New England Patriots and has asked the franchise to trade him before the 2021 NFL season kicks off. The news was confirmed by Harry’s agent Jamal Tooson in a statement released late on Tuesday.
According to the statement, Tooson and the Pats had “numerous conversations” in recent months, and he concluded that the best option for his client is to have a fresh start elsewhere.
“We are confident success is just around the corner for him and will aggressively pursue it,” said Tooson.
N’Keal Harry has been a dominating presence at college, playing three years with Arizona State and getting 213 receptions for 2,889 yards and 22 touchdowns. This production, alongside his physical traits, prompted New England to select him in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Harry had a rough beginning of his NFL career, suffering an ankle injury during training camp that limited him to just seven games in his rookie season. He managed 12 receptions for 105 yards and two TDs.
The Pats expected Harry to bounce back in 2020, but things didn’t work out as planned. The 23-year-old player continued to struggle and only managed 33 catches for 309 yards and two scores in 14 games.
New England probably won’t fight hard to keep Harry, as he was projected to slip down on the depth chart regardless. The franchise is also well-stocked on offense, having added wide receivers Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne alongside tight ends Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry.
