Badly needing wideout depth, New England Patriots opted for a rare deal with a divisional rival. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Patriots acquired wide receiver Isaiah Ford from Miami Dolphins hours before the NFL trade deadline wrapped up.

Schefter reports that New England sent a seventh-rounder in 2022 to Dolphins in exchange for Ford.

Ford, who was a seventh-round pick in 2017, played in the slot for the better part of 2020 for Miami and put up some solid performances so far in the season. He has 18 receptions for 184 yards while also being responsible for winning a total of 13 new first downs for Dolphins in seven games.

For Patriots, the addition of Isaiah Ford addresses a glaring need. The organization recently lost veteran Julian Edelman to a knee injury while 2019’s first-round pick N’Keal Harry has been dealing with several issues, including a concussion he suffered in Week 7 game against San Francisco 49ers.

Dolphins, on the other hand, probably want to give more playing time to rookies Lynn Bowden Jr. and Malcolm Perry. They also have Antonio Callaway, who had 43 receptions for 586 yards and five touchdowns with Cleveland Browns in 2018, waiting for his shot on the practice squad.
